Your Voice Matters

The information students provide us on surveys and feedback forms is invaluable.  We care what you think and want to help make the most of your Marquette experience.  There are a number of important surveys out this semester.  Maybe you just completed one.  When you get that invitation to participate, we hope you’ll consider taking part.  When you say it, we listen! Current Surveys

The National Survey for Student Engagement

What is NSSE?
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) collects information annually about first-year and senior student experiences from over 1,000 participating colleges and universities in the US. Results from the survey show how students spend their time in and out of the classroom and how the university uses resources to engage students in activities shown to be connected to student learning. The survey is administered by the Indiana University Center for Postsecondary Research. Additional information can be found at their website.

How do I complete the NSSE survey?
The survey is sent to first-year and graduating senior undergraduate students via email in mid-February 2013. The email invitation is from Marquette University President, Father Scott R. Pilarz. Subsequent reminder messages will come from Provost John Pauly, MUSG President Arica Van Boxtel, and Vice President for Student Affairs L. Christopher Miller.

Your email invitation includes a link to the survey which is unique to you. When you click on the link, you will be directed to the online survey hosted by NSSE. Once you complete the survey, you will not receive any further email reminders.

What if I have problems logging in?
The survey is only sent to first-year and graduating senior students. If you are part of this group but did not receive a survey invitation, please contact Alexandra Riley, Associate Director of Institutional Research (alexandra.riley@marquette.edu or 414-288-8049) to determine your status.

If you received an email invitation but have any difficulty accessing the survey, please email help@nssesurvey.org.

What will Marquette do with the results?
Marquette uses the results of the NSSE to improve the undergraduate student experience by understanding how students spend their time and how their experiences impacted their learning. The results will be used to inform policy changes, new program initiatives, and assessment and accreditation efforts. For more information about how the results will be used, please contact Alexandra Riley, Associate Director of Institutional Research (alexandra.riley@marquette.edu or 414-288-8049).

Am I going to be identified in any report?
Your responses to the NSSE are confidential and will only be used in aggregate results. Participation in the NSSE is completely voluntary.

When do I need to submit my survey to be eligible for the $50 Marquette Cash gift cards?
In appreciation for participating, we will enter all students who complete the survey by April 15st into a drawing for 1 of 10 Marquette Cash gift cards worth $50 each. Approximately 1,500 students are eligible to win. Winners will be contacted via their Marquette email address.

Graduating Senior Survey

The annual Graduating Senior Survey investigates graduating seniors’ engagement in co-curricular learning experiences at Marquette, perceived impact of their education on institutional learning outcomes, experiences with key mission and identity objectives of the university, plans for the immediate future, and overall satisfaction with their Marquette education. Questions on the survey are specially authored to allow for comparison with surveys administered to new students and alumni. The FAQs outlines above are also applicable to the Senior Survey.
