MUAA Mentor Program

Mentor's guidance provides support, helps mentee land Leo Burnett internship

By Comm mentee Kaelyn Whiteside

My name is Kaelyn Whiteside and I’m a senior studying digital media and advertising. This school year, I was mentored by Hope Bradley, a director at ABC7 in Chicago. Throughout the school year she helped me with preparing to enter the workforce to ensure that my resume and production reel, in particular. were their best. They were very important to the both of us.

In addition, she wanted me to focus on how I would like to brand myself. She was always there to listen to my ideas and gave me constructive criticism, which is important to me.

I was recently offered a post-graduate internship at Leo Burnett in Chicago. Throughout the whole process of interviewing with them, the things Hope and I prepared for were critical, including my reel and how I presented myself to employers came into the conversation like clockwork.

I was thoroughly prepared for everything because she guided me- and it’s for that reason that I’d like to thank her, even in her absence tonight, for being such a great resource to me.

I urge all of my fellow mentees to continue to stay in contact with their mentors. I know I will since Leo Burnett and ABC7 are right across the street from one another!

In closing, I’d also like to thank all mentors who took the time to talk to and guide my fellow classmates. All mentors really serve as a source of inspiration to us as we enter adulthood. It was truly a great experience to be in such a program and you are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
