History: The Diocese of Little Rock was erected, 1843, for Arkansas and Indian Territory (Oklahoma) from territory in the Diocese of St. Louis. Little Rock lost territory beyond Arkansas, 1876, when the Prefecture Apostolate of Indian Territory was erected. Little Rock diocesan priests from Immaculate Conception Church, Fort Smith, Arkansas, established and attended St. Patrick Mission (Choctaw), Atoka, Oklahoma/ Indian Territory, 1872-1875.
