History: The Franciscans (a.k.a. Order of Friars Minor), founded by St. Francis of Assisi (Italy), 1209, self-identify with the post-nominal initials, “O.F.M.” Established in 1915, the Santa Barbara Province succeeded the St. John the Baptist Province (Archives: Cincinnati, Ohio; archives bulk: St. Michaels and Tucson, Arizona) in administering the following Native American missions in Arizona and California:
