History: St. John Church and Holy Rosary Church, Grand Marais, Cook County, Minnesota, are two predominantly non-Native American parishes in the Diocese of Duluth (Archives: Duluth, Minnesota).

Rev. I. Frederic Baraga visited Grand Portage (Ojibwa)

1838-1839

Rev. Francis Pierz established and administered St. Peter Chapel and School (Ojibwa), Grand Portage

Rev. Pierz established and administered a chapel and school at Pigeon River (Ojibwa)

1846-1848

Milwaukee diocesan priests (Archives: Milwaukee, Wisconsin) at St. Joseph’s, La Pointe, Wisconsin, attended to the chapels at Grand Portage and Pigeon River

Jesuits (Canadian Province) (Archives: Montreal, Quebec) established and administered Immaculate Conception Mission, Pigeon River, which moved to Thunder Bay/ Fort William, Ontario
