History: The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet were founded in France, ca. 1650, and have self-identified with the post-nominal initials, “C.S.J.” They made their first U.S. foundation, 1836, and established their St. Paul Province, 1851. The sisters of the St. Paul Province have taught at the following Catholic schools in Minnesota that have served Native American students.

 History of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Superior, Wisconsin: This community merged with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, St. Paul Province. Its sisters taught at the Lac Court Oreilles Day School (Ojibwa), Reserve, Wisconsin, 1910-1920.
