History: Founded in Rome by Mary Ward of England, 1638, the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or the Loretto Sisters, self-identify with the post-nominal initials, “I.B.V.M.” They made their first foundation in Canada, 1847, and in the United States, 1880. Its Toronto Province administered Holy Name of Mary School (Ojibwa), Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, 1896-1971 (closed).
