History: The Soeurs grises, or Grey Nuns of Quebec, were founded in Quebec, Canada, 1849, and made their first U.S. foundation, 1890. The Soeurs grises staffed Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel and School (Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota), Fort Totten, Fort Totten Reservation/ Agency, North Dakota/ Dakota Territory, ca. 1874-ca. 1927 (transferred to Soeurs grises of Montreal, ca. 1929).
