>1 is a two-fold social justice program that will begin on February 23rd. This year, the event will be centered on identity, specifically surrounding the fact that we are all part of multiple identities that make us unique individuals.
From February 20 - February 24, RHA will be tabling in the AMU to promote different forms of identity that we all display. This will be done through a photo campaign that students will be able to interact with. The photo campaign will be taking place from 11:00-2:00 each day in front of Marquette Place.
The second part of the event will be a speaker series held in the Weasler Auditorium on Febuary 28 at 7:00pm. This speaker series will host students and faculty, and their stories of how identity has shaped them as individuals and why it is important on Marquette's campus. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
This event promotes awareness about social justice issues in today's world. The experience of attending Greater Than 1 should stimulate thoughts, feelings, and emotions around the issues and images presented on identity. The hope is that through this experience, students will realize that, as John Green put, "we are greater than the sum of our parts."
