University apartment deposits accepted Oct. 17

Now is the time for sophomores and juniors to think about signing a lease for the 2012-2013 academic year. Deposits for university-owned apartments are due between Oct. 17 and 28, with apartment selection deadlines in early November. Freshmen will be emailed information regarding deposit and roommate requests for in residence halls in February.

University Apartments offers studio, one, two and three-bedroom options in five safe and convenient living communities on or close to campus. Open house tours are available on Oct. 13, 16, 26 and 29, and information sessions will be offered in all sophomore residence halls.

All university apartment buildings feature 24-hour building surveillance and security. Students can sign a lease for a semester, academic year or full year, and are able to pay rent directly to their university Bursar account. All apartments include wireless internet access and basic cable, and some apartments are completely or partially furnished. Parents encouraged to sign Call to Service pledge

During the Inauguration of Rev. Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., the Marquette community was invited to renew its commitment to service in betterment of our neighborhood and our world. As vital members of the Marquette family, parents are encouraged to participate in the year-long Call to Service initiative and to sign the pledge online, indicating a commitment to give service hours in the year ahead. The manner in which individuals choose to live out this commitment will be unique to them, such as participating with family, co-workers, or a group in a service project, volunteering on a recurring basis at a non-profit, or enhancing in a fresh way the service they may already be doing. The Call to Service website also provides suggestions and resources for service projects in the Milwaukee area and ways to connect directly with non-profits in need.

Flu shots now available

Influenza vaccinations (injectable) are now available to students. The vaccine is available by appointment through Student Health Service, (414) 288-7184, or at campus-wide flu vaccination clinics through the end of the month. Cost of the vaccine is $20.

Registration open for Campus Ministry retreats

Registration is now open for Campus Ministry's fall Marquette Experience and Finding God in All Things retreats. Along with repeating the Marquette Experience retreat, Campus Ministry will offer the Connect Retreat, Lenten Retreat in Daily Life and a Silent Directed Retreat during the spring semester.

Free graduate school admission practice tests offered

The Career Services Center is partnering with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions to offer free national practice tests for the MCAT, LSAT, GRE, PCAT, DAT and OAT on campus, Saturday, Oct. 15. Students can register online or call the Career Services Center, (414) 288-7423, for more information.

Celebration for new Engineering Hall, Oct. 7

The Marquette University College of Engineering will celebrate the opening of its new $50 million facility, Engineering Hall, Friday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. Along with remarks from Marquette University President Scott R. Pilarz, S.J., and Opus Dean of Engineering Robert Bishop, tours of the 115,000 square-foot building will be offered. Everyone is welcome. Engineering Hall is the first phace of a planned $100 million project.

Open house for prospective students Sunday, Oct. 9

This Sunday, Oct. 9, Admissions is hosting the Fall Open House for prospective students. The application deadline to apply to Marquette is Dec. 1, 2011. It is recommended that prospective students apply by Oct. 31, leaving Marquette time to contact the student by Dec. 1 if something is missing from the application.

CIRCLES events offer networking opportunities for parents and alumni

Marquette provides networking opportunities for parents and family members through the Marquette CIRCLES program. You are invited to join fellow parents, alumni and industry leaders to enhance your professional and personal network by connecting with others in the Marquette family. Upcoming CIRCLE events will be held in Waukesha, Boston, Chicago, Charlotte and Atlanta. Registration and event details are available online.

MARQUETTE ATHLETICS

Fall season off to fantastic start

The fall season of Marquette Athletics is off to one of the best starts in program history. Ranked 10th in the nation, the women's soccer team is 12-2, including a 5-1 mark in Big East play and a perfect 8-0 at home. This weekend the team will face Providence and Connecticut at Valley Fields and host South Florida for Senior Night on Oct. 22.

After victories in their previous five games, the men's soccer team lost in double overtime last night to Northern Illinois. The team is 2-0 in Big East play with wins at Syracuse and at home against Rutgers. Freshman James C. Nortey leads the team with five goals. The team faces a key three-game homestand beginning Oct. 12 as they take on Notre Dame, West Virginia and Georgetown.

Not to be outdone, the women's volleyball team has an unblemished 3-0 mark in conference play, posting wins over South Florida, Connecticut and St. John's. For more information on all things Marquette Athletics, visit GoMarquette.com.

Marquette Madness, Oct. 14

Marquette Madness signals the official start to the men's and women's basketball seasons. This year it will be held on Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Al McGuire Center. In addition to team introductions, the event will include a dunk contest and scrimmages. Free and open to the public, seating is general admission on a first-come, first serve basis. Doors open at approximately 6:45 p.m. with the first 4,000 fans receiving a free t-shirt. The Marquette Club of Chicago will also host a dinner that night with a live broadcast of the event at the Blue Bayou.

Fanatic season tickets available

Students received ordering instructions for men's basketball season tickets last week. The Fanatics Package is $110 and includes admission to all 16 home games. Admission to all other sports is free with a valid MU ID. A variety of ticket packages remain available for parents, with single-game tickets going on sale Oct. 2.
