Marquette Online Course Evaluation System (MOCES)

ATTENTION: Student course evaluations (MOCES) will NOT be conducted for the Spring 2020 term. This decision is in response to Marquette’s decision to move all courses online as a result of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). Please email courseval@marquette.edu with any questions or concerns.

Each semester, students have the opportunity to provide feedback about their courses and instructors through the Marquette Online Course Evaluation System (MOCES). Marquette uses the results of the evaluations to improve the quality of teaching and learning. The information is also used in the faculty promotion and tenure process. The Office of Institutional Research and Analysis manages the course evaluation process on behalf of the university.

Preparing for the Evaluation

Viewing Results in MOCES

Instructors will receive an email notifying them when results are available. The email is usually sent in the afternoon the day after grades are due. Instructors with missing grades are locked out of the course evaluation system until all grades have been submitted. The results include the numerical summary of each question in addition to student comments.

Viewing Results in the FAD for Promotion and Tenure

Full-time faculty with a Faculty Activities Database (FAD) account can run the "Instructor Profile (MOCES) - Promotion and Tenure" in the FAD to see the combined core item median and comparison statistics. The results for the most recent semester are typically available in the FAD two weeks after final grades are due.

Part-time faculty can request a PDF report with similar information from their chair or dean.

Information for Chairs and Deans

Chair and deans have access to course evaluation results for courses taught within their department/college and instructors appointed to their department/college.

Chairs and deans can run a report for full-time faculty with a Faculty Activities Database (FAD) to see the combined core item median and comparison statistics needed for promotion and tenure dossiers. The results for the most recent semester are typically available in the FAD two weeks after final grades are due.

SharePoint Instructor Profiles

Chairs and deans also have access to a SharePoint site which houses results by semester and includes a profile for each instructor and a department summary. For part-time faculty not in the FAD, these reports are the only place the combined core item median and comparison data are available.
