James Wright Foley (1973-2014) was a 1996 Marquette University graduate who went on to become a teacher, writer, and conflict journalist. He was embedded with the United States Military in Iraq and Afghanistan from 2008-2011 and later travelled to Libya and Syria to report on the civil wars there. On November 22, 2012, Thanksgiving Day, he was taken hostage by members of the militant Islamist group ISIS on his way out of Syria. Jim was tortured and held captive for nearly two years. On August 19, 2014, a video showing his murder was released online by his captors. This collection contains material created by or about Jim from his early life to the present.
