MILWAUKEE — The College of Nursing's Institute for Palliative and End of Life Care will present the James Wake Memorial Lecture Monday, Nov. 14, at 5 p.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballroom, 1442 West Wisconsin Avenue. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Dr. Marie Nolan will present "Patient and Family Decision-Making During Critical Illness and at End of Life." Nolan is an internationally recognized nurse scientist, and has served on the National Institutes of Health — National Institute of Nursing Research's advisory panels focused on end-of-life issues. Her presentation will present findings from 15 years of research about decision-making at the end of life for patients and their families in intensive care settings, and with serious illnesses including cancer, heart failure and neurologic disease.

The lecture is presented by the Marquette University College of Nursing Institute for Palliative and End of Life Care. The event is in memory of James Wake, late husband of former Marquette Provost Dr. Madeline Wake. James Wake's career was devoted to helping others through social work and chaplaincy.

A reception will follow the lecture.
