SunPower CEO to discuss changes in the solar industry at Marquette University's Opus College of Engineering

December 6, 2016

MILWAUKEE — Tom Werner, CEO and chairman of SunPower, will speak about how solar energy is changing the way the world is powered on Friday, Dec. 9, at noon at Marquette University's Opus College of Engineering.

Werner graduated from Marquette with an engineering degree in 1986 and is a member of Marquette's Board of Trustees. When he joined SunPower as CEO in 2003, the San Jose, Calif.-based company had 35 employees and $4.5 million in revenue. Today, SunPower has more than 7,000 employees, and recorded $2.5 billion in revenue in 2015.

Solar energy is becoming mainstream and has surpassed 1 million installations in the United States this year, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). Werner will talk about the evolution of the industry, the technology behind it, and why more homeowners and leading businesses are choosing to meet their electricity needs through solar energy.

He also will share his perspective as a CEO with 14 years' experience working in a dynamic industry influenced by innovation, public policy and global markets.

Media wishing to cover the speech should contact Joe DiGiovanni at Joseph.DiGiovanni@Marquette.edu or at (414) 288-6712.
