MILWAUKEE — The Future Milwaukee community leadership program, offered through Marquette University's Klingler College of Arts and Sciences and the Center of Urban Research, Teaching, and Outreach, is currently recruiting individuals for its nine-month program. Participants meet twice per month on Monday evenings from mid-September 2018 through mid-May 2019 and receive a certificate of completion upon graduation.
Applications are available online; the deadline to apply is midnight Monday, July 16. Students interested in scholarship aid must also complete the scholarship application within the same time-frame.
Program participants examine their personal strengths and challenges, and learn best practices in team building and collaboration. In the process, students engage directly with community leaders in organizations throughout Milwaukee County who are key to the community's vitality and health. As part of the nine-month experience, Future Milwaukee participants work in teams collaborating with citizens and organizations to implement a project. In addition, each student receives one-on-one leadership coaching and each project team is mentored in group dynamics.
"Future Milwaukee is a place where students experience personal and professional development; where relationships are born; where students discover Milwaukee County's greatest assets and challenges and engage with community leaders," said Christine Hill, executive director. "Students are encouraged to build a deeper understanding of our community, as well as themselves, so that ultimately, as leaders, they will know how to make a lasting, positive difference in this place we call home."
Since 1978, the Future Milwaukee leadership program, which since 2005 has been housed at Marquette University, has been building a diverse group of ethically based leaders among all sectors of the Milwaukee community. To date, there are more than 1,600 Future Milwaukee graduates who serve as leaders in business, nonprofit, government and community organizations throughout the region.
