Marquette University to host weeklong Homecoming celebration, Sept. 30 – Oct. 6

MILWAUKEE —Marquette University will host a series of events and celebrations during Homecoming Week and Alumni Reunion Weekend. Marquette is expecting to welcome thousands of current students, alumni and friends to the various events. Approximately 30,000 of Marquette's more than 114,000 alumni nationwide live in southeast Wisconsin.

“All the elements that make Marquette University a special place can be found in our Homecoming Week,” said Marquette President Michael R. Lovell. “I look forward to being among students, alumni, faculty and staff who are united by our mission and celebrating our time together.”

HOMECOMING EVENTS

Monday, Sept. 30:

Golden Eagles Games: Marquette’s Homecoming tradition will kick off at 6 p.m. with a night of games at Helfaer Tennis Stadium and Recreation Center, 525 N. 16th St. Competitions include dodgeball, tug-of-war and Minute to Win It. There will also be a raffle and plenty of chances to win prizes. No preregistration is required.

Tuesday, Oct. 1:

Marquette men's soccer vs. Saint Louis University: The Golden Eagles will take on the Billikens at 7:05 p.m. at Marquette Valley Fields, 1818 W. Canal St.

Tuesday Night Mass: A 10 p.m. Mass at the St. Joan of Arc Chapel — a Marquette tradition like few others.  

Wednesday, Oct. 2:

Stuff the Truck:A “Stuff the Truck” food drive will place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ray and Kay Eckstein Common, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave., to support the Marquette University Neighborhood Kitchen. The goal of the event, which is a collaboration between Sodexo and Marquette Dining Services, is to collect 4,500 pounds of food for community members in need.

Thursday, Oct. 3:

Institute for Women's Leadership launch celebration: Learn about the creation of the IWL and its mission during a launch party from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the 707 Hub, 1102 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Marquette women's soccer vs. Providence: The Golden Eagles will take on Big East foe the Friars at 7 p.m. at Marquette Valley Fields, 1818 W. Canal St.

MU Spotlight
Check out the annual talent show at 8:30 p.m. at Varsity Theatre, 1326 W. Wisconsin Ave. Students, faculty, staff and alumni will showcase their talents. No preregistration is required.

Friday, Oct. 4:

Bed races:Faculty, staff and student teams will participate in a bed racing competition outside the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St., at 4 p.m.

Madness Street Fair: Starting at 6:30 p.m., on 12th Street (between Wisconsin Avenue and Wells Street), students, alumni and community members will participate in this pre-Madness celebration with food, games, prizes and a Ferris wheel right outside the Al McGuire Center.

Marquette men's soccer vs. St. John'sThe Golden Eagles take on the Red Storm at 7:05 p.m. at Marquette Valley Fields, 1818 W. Canal St.

Marquette Madness: Beginning at 9 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St., Marquette students can help kick off the men's and women's basketball season with Marquette Madness, which will feature a performance by 12-time Grammy nominee T-Pain.

Saturday, Oct. 5

Marquette men's and women's basketball open practice: See the men's and women's basketball teams in action with open practices at the Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St. The women’s basketball team will take the Al McGuire Court starting at 9 a.m., with the men’s basketball team taking center stage at 10:30 a.m.

Block Party: A block party featuring activities, games and picnic-style food will take place from noon to 4 p.m. in Marquette’s Central Mall between Raynor Memorial Libraries and Lalumiere Hall.

Fan Experience: Fans will get the chance to meet this year’s men’s and women’s basketball teams from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. in Marquette’s Central Mall between Raynor Memorial Libraries and Lalumiere Hall.

Concert: Marquette will take over Fiserv Forum, 1111 Vel R. Phillips Ave., Milwaukee, at 7 p.m. for a private concert featuring Alessia Cara and special guests lovelytheband.

Sunday, Oct. 6

Marquette Theatre performance: "Peter and the Starcatcher" will be performed at 2:30 p.m. at the Helfaer Treatre, 1304 W. Clybourn St. Pirates, sea creatures and a little bit of magic fill this retelling of the Peter Pan story based on a best-selling novel.

Homecoming Mass: A special Homecoming Mass will take place at 6 p.m. at Church of the Gesu, 145 W. Wisconsin Ave., to close out the celebrations.
