Aug. 10, 2020

Mike Gousha and Dr. Charles FranklinMILWAUKEE — With Wisconsin looming as a pivotal swing state in the 2020 election, Marquette University Law School has announced the release of “Wisconsin: The State of the Race” — a video presentation from Dr. Charles Franklin, director of the Marquette Law Poll, and Mike Gousha, distinguished fellow in law and public policy, designed to draw on the latest polling data to provide valuable information on the state to national and local media covering the election just ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

While the convention has been scaled back, the importance of Wisconsin in the electoral college has not changed.

The video will be released via email at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, and be available on the Marquette Law School website.

Franklin and Gousha will discuss what you need to know, as the conventions kick off the fall campaign season, about how Wisconsin voters are trending on top issues, and the strengths of both the Democratic and Republican parties in the state. Each topic will be supported by data collected in Marquette Law School Polls with additional context provided by the two commentators.

The discussion will highlight both the latest Marquette Law School Poll, released on Aug. 11, as well as trends in the state throughout the year leading into convention season and the fall.

The Marquette Law School Poll is the most extensive statewide polling project in Wisconsin history. Franklin has directed the poll since its inception in 2012 and is a professor of law and public policy at Marquette Law School. Franklin co-founded pollster.com, an award-winning site for nonpartisan polling analysis, and is a member of the ABC News election-night analysis team.

Gousha, an award-winning broadcast journalist, is the Law School’s distinguished fellow in law and public policy. His “On the Issues” series of conversations with newsmakers supports Marquette Law School’s commitment to serve as a modern-day public square for the city of Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin and beyond.
