Sarah FeldnerMILWAUKEE — Dr. Sarah Feldner, acting dean of the Diederich College of Communication, has been named to the permanent position, Provost Kimo Ah Yun announced today. Feldner, who was named acting dean in November 2018, was previously the college’s associate dean for graduate studies and research. The new role is effective immediately.

“For the past 18 months, Dr. Feldner has provided the Diederich College of Communication with thoughtful, visionary leadership that has benefited students, faculty, staff and the university as a whole,” Provost Ah Yun said. “With her keen understanding of the future of communication education and her passion for Marquette and its Catholic, Jesuit mission, vision, and values, it is clear that she will excel in the permanent role. I am looking forward to our continued work together as we position Marquette and the college for the future amid these turbulent times.”

“It has been my privilege to lead the college over the past year and a half in an acting role, and I am honored to continue serving as dean of the Diederich College of Communication,” Feldner said. “We are in the midst of a difficult time, and yet, our faculty, staff, students and alumni remain dedicated to creating impactful experiences that prepare students to make a difference. With what the world is facing, the need for ethical professional communicators and journalists has become increasingly important to a safer and more just society. As a college, we are committed to embracing creativity and enhancing knowledge to develop those future leaders who will serve the collective good. Despite the challenges before us, together we are well positioned for success well into the future.”

Feldner, who is a professor of communication studies, also served as the director of the Marquette Core Curriculum from 2016-18.
