Media Advisory: Move-in Day at Marquette residence halls is Aug. 24

The Commons residence hallMILWAUKEE — Marquette University will welcome more than 1,650 first-year students from 37 states, three U.S. territories and eight foreign countries into Marquette’s residence halls on Tuesday, Aug. 24, ahead of the start of the 2021-22 academic year.

With over 90% of the student population vaccinated, Marquette is preparing for a return to regular campus operations. Move-in begins at 8 a.m. with a formal blessing for new students and their families at 9 a.m. at The Commons (721 N. 17th St.). New Student Convocation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 4 p.m. on Central Mall, south of Wisconsin Ave. and adjacent to St. Joan of Arc Chapel.

The first day of school for all undergraduate students is Monday, Aug. 30.

Masks are required for all people entering campus buildings, including residence halls. Members of the media attending Move-In Day or New Student Convocation are asked to complete a COVID-19 symptom screening check before coming to campus.

Move-In Day: Tuesday, Aug. 24

Residence hall move-in takes place from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The best photo, video and interview opportunities will occur at The Commons (721 N. 17th St.). Access to residence hall rooms at The Commons can be provided by Office of Marketing and Communication staff. Students will also be moving into eight other residence halls across campus.

During move-in, there will be street closures on 13th, 17th and 18th Streets between Wells Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Leadership interview and photo opportunities available at The Commons:

  • 6 a.m. – Staff will be on hand to allow for live shots
  • 6:30 a.m – Dr. Xavier Cole, vice president for student affairs
    • Live interviews can be scheduled in advance on a first-come, first-served basis
    • Topics include: COVID protocols; campus vaccination information; class demographics and statistics; general university information
  • 9 a.m. – Blessing of new students and families at The Commons
  • 9:15 a.m. – Marquette President Michael R. Lovell will be handing out keys to new residents in the registration area, but will be unavailable for interviews

Some standout members of the Class of 2025 will be available for interviews at Move-In or New Student Convocation.

New Student Convocation: Wednesday, Aug. 25

Convocation, considered the “formal welcome” to Marquette for new students and their families, will take place at 4 p.m. on Central Mall, south of Wisconsin Ave. and adjacent to St. Joan of Arc Chapel.
