MILWAUKEE — Dr. Jeffrey Hales, Charles T. Zlatkovich Centennial Professor of Accounting at the University of Texas at Austin and chair of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, will be the keynote speaker for the Sustainability 2.0 Conference hosted by the Marquette University College of Business Administration on Monday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Alumni Memorial Union, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.
Hales’ talk, "Jumping ahead: What to expect from ESG policy in 2022," will address the continuing ways that global sustainability standards are shaping business. The conference will also feature four panels discussing a new era of sustainability, featuring top thought leaders from academia and nonprofit organizations, as well as chief sustainability executives from firms across a variety of industries.

Hales is an expert and leading researcher on accounting standard setting and regulation, individual decision making, and behavioral finance. The Sustainability Accounting Standards Board connects businesses and investors on the financial impacts of sustainability by enabling businesses around the world to identify, manage, and communicate sustainability information to investors.

Marquette Business held its first ever symposium on sustainable investment in 2019, bringing together experts from across the country on socially responsible investing. Since that time, more companies and organizations have adopted environmental, social, and governance criteria and sustainability standards, creating an emerging paradigm for responsible and ethical business practice moving into the future.
