Dr. Marko BastlMILWAUKEE — Dr. Marko Bastl, associate professor of supply chain management, has been named director of Marquette University’s Center for Supply Chain Management. A faculty member in the College of Business Administration, he brings 20 years of academic and industry experience to the role, which he began July 1.

As director, Bastl will be responsible for leading one of the college’s flagship centers, which is currently ranked in the top 20 nationally by U.S. News and World Report, Gartner Inc., and SCM World. The center also produces the popular monthly Marquette ISM Manufacturing Survey.

“The Center for Supply Chain Management in so many ways symbolizes the excellence that is associated with a Marquette Business education,” said Tim Hanley, interim Keyes Dean of Business Administration. “Dr. Marko Bastl is an exceptionally talented teacher, scholar, and leader in our college, and I am excited to see this center continue to thrive and grow with his leadership.”

Prior joining Marquette University in August 2013, he worked as a Senior Research Fellow in a renowned supply chain research center and Cranfield School of Management in United Kingdom. He held various executive positions, most recently the head of corporate financial and operational controlling for a paper manufacturing business.

“Marko is one of those unique talents who can transcend academic knowledge with true business experience which I feel is an important attribute when teaching in the supply chain area,” said Chris Adams, chair of the college’s Supply Chain Program advisory board and a partner with Veritas Business Consulting. “His innovative approach to supply chain complexities, along with his unique vision to anticipate and attack challenges has been amazing. He has established himself as a terrific asset to the Supply Chain Program and I am thrilled for the program’s continued success under his leadership.”

Bastl’s research and teaching interests are addressing some of the most topical and critical questions in supply chain management practice and theory. These include for example how to effectively manage multi-tier inter-firm relationships, how to effectively exit from buyer-supplier relationships, and how to achieve supply chain transparency, to name a few.

Bastl has won multiple awards for outstanding research and has been published in the Journal of Supply Chain Management, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, and International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, among others. He is an editorial review board member for the Journal of Supply Chain Management and acts as a reviewer for multiple other top tier journals.

Marquette's Center for Supply Chain Management prepares students through real-world experience and applied learning. The center is more than a place of academic excellence — it is a driver of industry. Located in Milwaukee, a vibrant and diverse manufacturing and business services area, the center ensures that students benefit from deep industry relationships.
