Dr. James KincaidDr. Jim Kincaid grew up in the Cincinnati area and received his B.S. from Xavier University in 1970. He earned his PhD. in Chemistry from Marquette University in 1974 under the supervision of Prof. Kazuo Nakamoto. He then served as an NIH postdoctoral fellow in the research group of Dr. Thomas Spiro at Princeton University. He returned to Marquette University in 1984 as a member of the Chemistry faculty, and he remained in the department until his retirement in 2022. He served as department chair from 2017 to 2021.

 Professor Kincaid was an internationally recognized leader in the application of resonance Raman spectroscopy to the study of biological systems, in particular heme-containing enzymes. During his productive career at Marquette, he published more than 115 papers that have been cited nearly 5000 times. He was a dedicated mentor of young scientists, directing the research of dozens of graduate students and postdoctoral associates. His research group was externally funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and Department of Energy. For his achievements, he was honored as a Wehr Professor, Way Klingler Fellow, Habermann Chair, and given the Haggerty Award for Research Excellence.
