A message from President Lovell

Congratulations Class of 2020!

President LovellWords cannot come close to expressing how sorry we are that we just couldn’t make an in-person commencement ceremony work for the Marquette University Class of 2020. Words can, however, express how excited we are about your incredible achievement of earning a Marquette academic degree.

Each of you made the commitment to successfully complete your courses, and you also followed through on the Jesuit commitment to magis — doing more, doing the greater. An overwhelming majority of you also spent dozens of hours annually being involved in service projects here in Milwaukee, elsewhere in our country and overseas. You undertook research and completed internships and co-op experiences. You dedicated yourself to student organizations and also waited in line to get the best possible general admission seat at a Golden Eagle athletic event or Homecoming concert.

The global pandemic did disrupt your final semester, but I hope that will eventually be a smaller part of your Marquette memory and not its defining moment. Congratulations for a job well done. May God bless the Marquette University Class of 2020.
