On October 26 and 27, 2022, the Center for Data, Ethics, and Society participated in the Global University Summit for the Rome Call for AI Ethics, held on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The summit was co-organized by the Pontifical Academy for Life, IBM, and Notre Dame and is hosted by the Notre Dame-IBM Technology Ethics Lab.

The summit explored ways in which universities can use the complementary roles of research, education and policy in the development of human-centered approaches to artificial intelligence (AI). The event included plenary keynotes, panel discussions, and networking events. During the summit, participants from invited universities will have the opportunity to discuss ongoing work and best practices around AI ethics.

Prof Michael Zimmer represented the Center at the event, and shared a poster highlighting Marquette's multidisciplinary and mission-based approach to confronting global data ethics challenges facing society. The poster can be viewed here.
