Marquette Law School to host ‘On the Issues’ with Mike Gousha and Derek Mosley, March 3

Feb. 27, 2023

Derek Mosley and Mike GoushaMILWAUKEE — Mike Gousha, Marquette University Law School’s senior advisor in law and public policy, and Derek Mosley, director of the school’s Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education, will share the stage for a special conversation in an upcoming “On the Issues” program, Friday, March 3, at 12:15 p.m., at Marquette Law School’s Eckstein Hall.

The program is open to members of the public at no cost; registration is required and is available online. Members of the media who are interested in attending should contact Kevin Conway, associate director of university communication, at kevin.m.conway@marquette.edu.

Gousha will welcome Marquette Law alumnus Mosley back to Marquette in a program where the two will discuss how Milwaukee is doing in terms of economics, housing, crime, and culture; what attracted Mosley to the work of the Lubar Center; and how the Lubar Center can play a role in Milwaukee’s future.

Mosley may then turn the tables and ask Gousha a question or two. This event will also serve as a sort of “handoff,” as Mosley takes over as the primary host of future “On the Issues” programs.

Gousha joined Marquette Law School in 2007 after 25 years as a leading broadcast journalist in Milwaukee. His initiatives as distinguished fellow in law and public policy have included convening and hosting “On the Issues” programs; in January of last year, he stepped down from full-time involvement and assumed his current role as senior advisor. Gousha has continued to host the occasional program in the Lubar Center and to contribute research analyses on public policy topics in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel together with John D. Johnson, Lubar Center research fellow.

Mosley joined the Law School last month as Gousha’s successor of sorts in the new role of director of the Lubar Center. This follows Mosley’s 27 years in public service, most of it as a judge of the City of Milwaukee Municipal Court, since graduating from Marquette Law School in 1995. Beyond his professional work, Mosley has been deeply involved in civic and social life in Milwaukee, including service on the board of directors of organizations such as Froedtert Hospital, the Urban Ecology Center, the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee, Safe and Sound, Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, and the United Way Diversity Leadership Committee

Through public programming such as the Marquette Law School Poll, “On the Issues” conversations with newsmakers, public lectures by leading scholars, conferences on issues of public significance, and the work of its Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education, Marquette Law School seeks to advance civil discourse about law and public policy matters.
