FACHEX and Tuition Exchange Guidelines for Dependents of Marquette Faculty & Staff

Marquette University is pleased to participate in two tuition exchange programs: Faculty and Staff Children Exchange (FACHEX) and Tuition Exchange (TE).

FACHEX is sponsored by 26 Jesuit colleges and universities. The value of FACHEX award equals tuition.

Tuition Exchange (TE) is sponsored by more than 660 member institutions. The value of the TE scholarship is tuition or the annual set rate ($43,000 for 2025-2026). TE funding may include federal and state grant dollars, institutional scholarships, co-curricular awards, and grants. The bottom line is the amount of award will equal tuition or the set rate.

Through the FACHEX and Tuition Exchange (TE) programs, dependent children of Marquette University faculty and staff may be eligible to apply for awards at the participating institutions. These awards are competitive and not guaranteed. Each participating university makes award decisions independently, based on a comprehensive review of all certified applicants using the student’s complete undergraduate admission application. Marquette University does not participate in the award decision-making process at the receiving institutions.

Marquette University’s primary role in this process is to certify eligible employees and their dependents through the EZ Application. In the application, dependents select the universities they wish to apply to for FACHEX and/or TE consideration. If the parent is eligible for Dependent Tuition Benefits (as outlined in UPP 4-09), Marquette will certify the dependent’s eligibility accordingly. This certification serves as notification to the selected universities that the student is seeking FACHEX and/or TE consideration.

Step 1. Fill out EZ Application

Fill out EZ Application by February 1, 2026. Please make sure the following information is filled in correctly.

- Application Year: 2026-2027

- Employer: Marquette University

- Years of Employment: please count the years of full-time employment till August 2026.

- Student Classification: please choose your dependent’s enrollment status in Fall 2026. For example, if your dependent will be graduating high school in 2026, please choose “Never attended college and 1st year undergraduate”.

- Applying To: Choose all the universities your dependent desires to apply to.

Please Note:

The student (dependent) must create their own EZ App account. Each student is allowed to create only one account, and it is important that they use a personal email address that they will continue to use after graduating from high school. This ensures they can access the account throughout the application process and beyond.

Once the account is created, the student can log in at any time to check the status of their application or to make changes to their selected schools. Students may add or remove schools as needed, with a maximum of twenty (20) active schools at any given time. Newly added schools will be automatically certified within the system.

When the student selects schools in the application, the appropriate type of award—FACHEX, Tuition Exchange (TE), or both—will be applied automatically, based on the offerings of each institution. If the student is eventually awarded, the type of award received will be indicated in the “Exchange Program” section of the application.

It is important to note that some universities may have earlier deadlines for submitting certification and/or undergraduate admission applications. It is the responsibility of the student and their family to be aware of and meet all applicable deadlines. Information about individual school deadlines can be found on the Tuition Exchange Member Institutions webpage or on each university’s specific FACHEX or TE program page.

Step 2. Make $50 certification application fee payment

Marquette University requires a non-refundable certification fee of $50 per applicant. This fee is charged to offset the university’s Tuition Exchange (TE) membership costs. Payment must be submitted through the designated online payment webpage (restricted to campus or Marquette login).

Approval by Export University (Marquette University)

Marquette Unviersity is your export university. Once we receive your EZ application and application fee, Tuition Exchange coordinator will work with HR to confirm your dependent tuition remission eligibility. Once confirmed, your applicaiton will be approved for all schools to which the student applys in EZ application. Both the student and the sponsoring parent will receive an automated confirmation email from Tuition Exchange, listing the institutions to which certification has been submitted. If student later make changes in EZ app, such as add new schools, the newly added schools will be automaticallyl certified. Please expect 5 business days for your application to be proessed.

Submit undergraduate admission application before each university's deadline

Students must submit an undergraduate admission application directly to each university they wish to attend. It is essential to carefully review and follow the specific application requirements and deadlines for each institution.

To be considered for a FACHEX or Tuition Exchange (TE) award, a student must first be admitted to the university. Please keep in mind that these awards are highly competitive. Certification does not guarantee admission, and being admitted does not ensure that a FACHEX or TE award will be offered.

There is no required order in which the admission application and the FACHEX/TE certification must be submitted; either may be completed first. However, students and their families are responsible for knowing and meeting all relevant deadlines for both admission and exchange program certification at each school.

File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - Optional

While applying for financial aid is not necessarily required to be considered for a FACHEX or Tuition Exchange (TE) award, doing so may provide additional financial support. Financial aid programs can help cover housing costs or make it more feasible to attend a university if a FACHEX or TE award is not granted. Additionally, some participating institutions require students to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be considered for these exchange awards. We strongly recommend that students and families check with each university to determine whether a FAFSA is required and to confirm any recommended “file by” deadlines.

Receive FACHEX and TE Award Notification - Feburary 2026 to May 2026

FACHEX and Tuition Exchange (TE) awards are highly competitive and merit-based. Award decisions are made solely by each participating university and are based entirely on the academic and personal credentials submitted in the student’s undergraduate admission application. Each institution conducts its own review process and makes award determinations independently.

Initial notifications regarding FACHEX and TE awards are typically released in March. At some universities, students who are admitted but not initially offered an award may be placed on a waitlist for further consideration, should additional awards become available later in the spring. It is recommended that students contact the admissions office of each university to understand how the waitlist process works. Institutions differ in how they notify students of award decisions and waitlist status—methods may include phone calls, emails, postal mail, or updates to the student’s online financial aid portal.

Accept or Decline FACHEX/TE Award by May 1, 2026

If a FACHEX or Tuition Exchange (TE) award is offered, students must notify the awarding university of their decision to accept or decline the award by May 1. Detailed instructions on how to respond to the award, along with any relevant deadlines, will be provided in the official award letter issued by the university.

Pay Annual Participation Fee

If your dependent is awarded and enrolls at a FACHEX or Tuition Exchange (TE) institution—congratulations! Please note that Marquette University collects a $60 annual participation fee from each FACHEX TE participant,  which will be paid to Tuition Exchange center. Marquette employees (parents or guardians) will receive an invoice each October for as long as their child continues to receive a FACHEX or TE scholarship at a participating institution.

General Information and FAQs

Freshman or Transfer students

Preference for FACHEX and TE awards is usually given to new freshman applicants. Students currently attending a participating university without a FACHEX or TE award and who remain eligible/become eligible for the program during their enrollment should contact the Incoming FACHEX or TE coordinator at that university to learn whether it is possible to be placed on a waiting list for any available awards not filled by new freshmen applicants and to confirm any necessary certification or other requirements.

Value of Awards

FACHEX awards are for full tuition. TE awards may be for full tuition or for a set amount ($43,000 for 2025- 2026). Each institution determines whether they will award the set amount or full tuition. Some institutions in the programs have other fees associated with the award. Be certain to read any award letter carefully to know what is expected of award recipients. It’s worth to mention that 23 of the 26 Jesuit schools in the FACHEX program are also members of Tuition Exchange. In some cases, those schools offer FACHEX award (full tuition) and set rate TE award, which is less than full tuition. That decision is made by the awarding institution.

What are the awards applicable to?

FACHEX and TE awards are applicable to undergraduate study only. FACHEX and TE awards do not apply toward part-time, interim sessions, summer studies, or graduate studies, nor do they cover student fees, room, meal plan, books or other school-related expenses. Each university determines whether the FACHEX or TE award covers the additional tuition fee if students enroll in more than 18 credits per semester. The FACHEX or TE award may apply toward some study abroad programs held off the university campus. Please consult with the university’s student financial aid and study abroad offices for specific information.

Expectations for the students after enrolling

FACHEX or TE award recipients are expected to complete their undergraduate degree in four years (8 semesters) and are not ordinarily eligible for tuition remission for longer than four years. Any exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis.

FACHEX or TE award recipients must meet the requirements to remain eligible for the award. These requirements are set by their university, but usually include full-time enrollment status, remain in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university etc. Please carefully review the specific university’s continuation requirements to remain in compliance.

Expectations for Marquette employees

The parent or guardian serving as the eligible employee for the award recipient must maintain their eligibility for the benefit at Marquette University for the entire duration of their dependent’s enrollment under the FACHEX or Tuition Exchange (TE) award. If the employee’s employment status changes at any time, they are required to promptly notify Human Resources and immediately inform the designated contact person listed below.
