PURPOSE

In the spirit of giving back and recognizing the importance of Marquette's mission in the Milwaukee community and beyond, members of MURA (Marquette University Retiree Association) have pledged and given donations to provide scholarship assistance to current students from Wisconsin who exhibit financial need.

HISTORY

In the spring of 2017, members of the MU Retiree Association embarked upon raising donations in pursuit of a future scholarship fund.  A scholarship committee was formed and over a five-year period members of the scholarship committee pledged over $40,000 in donations.  Based on these pledges and donations, MURA entered into an agreement with the university and created a MURA Scholarship Fund in the fall of 2017.  Upon reaching the 50K threshold, the fund was officially converted into an endowed MURA Scholarship in the spring of 2019.  The first MURA scholarship was awarded in August 2019.

Original scholarship committee members include Dr. Nick Burckel, Mr. Dan Goyette, Ms. Mary Pat Pfeil, Mr. Don Kynaston, Ms. Linda Milson, Dr. Ed Block and Dr. Gail Waring.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT

Brielle Ebben, from Reedsville, WI, was the first student to receive the MURA Scholarship in August 2019.  A double major in finance and real estate, she was active in sports and student organizations. She graduated in May 2023 after four years of scholarship support from MURA.
