147,430 individuals in Milwaukee County are food insecure, at rate of 15.4%. Milwaukee County has the second highest rate of food insecurity in Wisconsin, behind Menominee County at 17.2%. The statewide rate is 10.0% and the national rate is 12.5%.(Feeding America). 

Food Insecurity and Health

Food insecurity has been linked with increased rick of numerous negative health outcomes, including obesity and chronic disease. Children dealing with food insecurity experience increased risk of obesity and developmental problems compared to food secure children. (Healthy People, 2020).
