Community Engagement Conversations: Finding Joy in the Struggle

Nov. 16, 2021 (Virtual Event)

This year, Marquette University celebrates the 500th anniversary of when Ignatius the soldier was injured by a cannonball in the Battle of Pamplona, a moment that instigated a change of heart and attested to God's constant invitation of grace to all of us at each moment. In preparing for the Community Engagement Symposium, the Steering Committee considered and reflected upon the invitation to stand in the light amidst these desolate times. As Henri Nouwen states: “I cannot always find the light or walk in the light of God. I need the love and support of my brothers and sisters in the community of faith.”

In recognition of this moment in both our institutional and community history, we invite members from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds to consider those moments of joy, hope and gratitude expressed as resilience and forged in the struggles. We invite attendees to pause and take time from their busy schedules to reflect on those people and aspects of their lives that continue to uplift them despite their burdens.

Join us as we hear from, and honor the stories of members across our Marquette and Milwaukee communities. Stories of hope rediscovered. Stories of faith rekindled. Stories of joy in the struggle.

We offer a special thanks to our partners with the Marquette Alumni Association, the Beyond MU learning platform, the Mission and Ministry – Ignatian Year Planning Committee and the MU Forum
