The Center for Cyber Security Awareness and Cyber Defense annually supports Cybersecurity Awareness Month with an event featuring the exchange of knowledge about cybersecurity awareness. This year we welcomed a cosponsor of this event, the Wisconsin Chapter of the Society for Information Management.

Alyssa Miller

Hacker/Researcher, Security Advocate, Author, International speaker. Co-Host Uncommon Journey Podcast. Alyssa has a passion for security which she evangelizes to business leaders and industry audiences both through her work as a cyber security professional and through her various public speaking engagements. Her goal is to change the way we look at the security of our interconnected way of life and focus attention on defending privacy and upholding trust. Alyssa leads Application Security Advocacy for London-based Snyk, working within the community to drive better overall security practices and integration in the DevSecOps pipeline. 

Angela Johnson

Experience professional in cybersecurity oversight and governance. Currently the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and VP of Information Systems (IS) Infrastructure at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

Ariel Evans

CEO of Cyber Innovative Technologies, a leading cyber risk platform company and Cyber Intelligence 4U a leading cyber educational services company with over 4000 graduates. She has over two decades of senior executive experience leading governance, legal, cyber, compliance, risk, and internal audit teams. She is a senior cybersecurity and governance expert, author and entrepreneur. Her book "Managing Cyber Risk" is taught at major Universities worldwide. Ariel pioneered the ‘Digital Asset Approach to Cyber Risk’ that bridges the gaps between boards and CISOs. She acts as the cyber expert on the board to several companies. She is a frequent guest lecturer and keynote speaker at many universities, organizations, and venues worldwide. Ariel also is a frequent guest on i24 news, tech republic, The Jim Bohannon Show and Cheddar TV and has several articles published by the Cybersecurity Law Report.  Her new book “Enterprise Cybersecurity – How to build a Cyber Resilient Organization’ will by published in early 2021.

Barrett McCormick

Barrett McCormick is a Professor in the Political Science department with over 30 years experience at Marquette.  He also serves as the Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Major in International Affairs. His current research projects include comparative research on the impact of information technology in diverse countries Previous projects include studies of the impact of commercialization and new technology on Chinese media.

Ben Sherman (SIM member) 

As the Account DIrector at Windstream, Bennet Sherman helps clients formulate & implement their Cloud strategy to address their business drivers. This includes anticipating the "Gotchas" that all customers encounter while making their transition to the cloud. Through a prior career in radio broadcasting at WBBM-FM Chicago as well as WISN & WTMJ in MIlwaukee, Ben hosted everything from Sports Talk, to News Interviews to being a co-host on Investment Advice, Home Repair. Ben is currently serving on the Board for the Wisconsin Chapter of SIM.

Bruce Boyden

Bruce Boyden specializes in copyright, Internet law, privacy, and legal history. After serving as an associate for a large New York City law firm, Bruce pursued academic positions. His scholarship focuses on the evolution of copyright and privacy law in response to technological and social change. Currently serving as an Associate Professor at Marquette University Law School.

Chad Zahrt

Chad Zahrt is the Assistant Dean for Student Services and Operations at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) School of Information Studies (SOIS). In his capacity as assistant dean, he serves on the School’s leadership team and is responsible for student advising, retention and recruitment, marketing, outreach, alumni relations, IT services and the administrative operations and strategic planning across all academic programs for SOIS.

Christopher Reis

Mathematics and computer science teacher with a demonstrated history of working in both public and private education. Currently completing a master of science in computing at Marquette University.  Faculty leader of the State Champion Marquette University High School Cyber Patriot Team. 

David Cagigal (SIM member)

Seasoned executive with over 25 years experience in information technology visioning, strategic planning and management. Experienced in converging business strategies with ever-changing and innovating information technologies. Also identifies and implements the appropriate change management processes and risk mitigating strategies for each unique culture. Held executive IT positions at Alliant Energy, DeVry University, DePaul University, Maytag and Amoco that crosses multiple industries and business functions. Former Chief Information Officer for the State of Wisconsin. Currently  serving as a Board Member, State CIO Council at RIDGE-LANE Limited Partners. SIM member.

Debbie Perouli

Dr. Perouli earned her Ph.D. from Purdue University where she did research on Internet Protocols. She has been active in the Milwaukee community in efforts to train future professional in cybersecurity. Her research includes network protocol design and analysis, network topology modeling, security of the Internet routing protocols, security of physical-cyber systems and quantum computing. Debbie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Marquette University.

Heidi Holdener (SIM member)

With 25 years’ experience, Heidi empowers corporate leaders to achieve business agility, quality and profit growth through technology-related strategy, leadership, management consulting and project/product delivery. Board Member, Charitable Giving, Professional Dimensions, Milwaukee. Heidi is the current president for the Society of Information Management (SIM) Wisconsin Chapter. Currently serving as Senior Director, Business Development at Trissential.

Jen Rathburn

Jen Rathburn is an attorney who focuses on counseling clients on data protection programs, data incident management, and breach response and recovery, as well as the monetization of data, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other privacy and security issues. She is one of the founders of the Midwest Cyber Security Alliance and has a deep understanding of the complex risk, operational, and legal issues companies must address to maintain the confidentiality of, access to, and integrity of their data. Jen  works to help health care and health plan clients to comply with the myriad of health care-related laws and to develop practical compliance solutions. She regularly counsels clients on regulatory compliance; contracts and other transactional issues; licensing and certification requirements; Medicare and Medicaid and other third-party payer reimbursement issues; medical staff issues; informed consent; and other operational issues.

Joshua Douglas

Joshua Douglas, has nearly two decades of experience in helping global organizations secure their most prized business/mission assets. He helps produce forward-looking cybersecurity services and solutions that help protect the global supply chain from opportunistic and deterministic threats while driving business strategy. Currently, Vice President of Product Management at Mimecast.

Channel Account Manager at Infosec. Experienced in a variety of industries including software/technology, financial services, manufacturing and health.

Account Executive at SANS Security Awareness. Experienced sales professional with a demonstrated history of working in multiple industries. Skilled in Inside Sales, Leadership, Microsoft Office Suite, Customer Experience, and Team Building. Strong support professional.

Laurie Panella (SIM member)

Experienced Chief Information Officer and Transformational  leader. Awarded CIO of the Year by Milwaukee Business Journal in 2017. SIM member. Formerly CIO for Milwaukee County and currently CIO at Marquette University.

Matthew Ancelin 

Matthew Ancelin has been a technologist for 37 years, professionally for 20 years, and focused on information security for the past 14 years. Currently Matthew serves as a Sales Engineer for SecurityScorecard. Previous employers were Palo Alto Networks, McAfee, Perot Systems (now Dell), Cotelligent, MicroAge, and the US Army. Matthew is a Certified Third Party Risk Professional (CTPRP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Digital Forensics Examiner, Certified Network Security Engineer, and a member of the FBI Infragard program. 

Maureen Carley

Experienced leadership in higher education programs. Currently the Program Manager for the MS-Information Technology Management and the MS-Cybersecurity degree programs offered by the University of Wisconsin Extended Campus.

Nick Dylan Biernat

Information technology aficionado with a passion for cyber security and compliance. 4+ years working in system administration, networking, IT management, cloud architecture, and security. Strong networking and troubleshooting experience. Proficient in administering Microsoft Azure and Office 365 while currently pursuing MCSA - Security Engineer Associate. Team player who understands how to communicate on different levels and maintain a focus on the client or end-user.

Paul Calatayud

As the Chief Security Office, Americas for Palo Alto Networks, Paul provides cyber thought leadership for the company. He has served on numerous advisory boards and as an instructor for the SAN Institute. Prior to joining Palo Alto Networks, he has served as a Chief Technology Officer and as a CISO.

Sarah Kavanaugh 

Sarah Kavanaugh is the Education Director for Information Technology programs and Instructional Data Systems administrator for the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).  Sarah has been with the WTCS for ten years focusing on creating equitable opportunities for adult education in Wisconsin. Sarah earned her M.S. in Higher Education Administrative Leadership at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and has spent most of her professional career working in higher education.

Sheldon Cuffie

Dedicated CISO with executive officer with experiences at Northwestern Mutual, Dell Technologies, and American Family Insurance. Frequent public speaker. Additional experience in risk management, solution architecture, and IT policy. Currently VP, Enterprise CISO American Family Insurance.

Steve Thomas

Experienced Chief Risk & Compliance Officer with a demonstrated history of working in the retail industry for over 25 years. Skilled in Negotiation, Enterprise Risk Management, Cyber Security, Retail, Insurance, Human Resources, Crisis Management (including COVID-19) and Team Building. Strong financial under graduate degree and juris doctor from Marquette University. Manages 6 different sub departments including Internal Audit, Risk Management, Sustainability, Government Affairs, Global Trade Compliance and Pricing Compliance.  Currently Executive Vice President, Chief Risk & Compliance Officer at Kohl's Department Stores, Inc.

Suresh Chalasani

Dr. Suresh Chalasani is Associate Dean and Professor - MIS Business Department, UW Parkside.  During his tenure, Dr. Chalasani has been involved in all aspects of the teaching lifecycle, including curriculum design and development for new programs, program delivery, assessment of student learning, and continuous improvement. In addition, Dr. Chalasani also serves as the Academic Director for both the MS-IT Management and MS-Cybersecurity degrees at UW as well as the Flexible Option Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. 

Todd Snapp

Todd Snapp is the President and owner of Stridepoint LLC and has 20+ years experience in Social Engineering Audits and IT Security Compliance. He is the creator of the Relay Managed Security Awareness program designed to help organizations build a long-term culture of security awareness. Todd has spent his career performing ethical social engineering attacks on some of the largest companies in the world and helping them protect their employees from low-tech security breaches. 

Tom Kaczmarek (SIM member)

Dr. Kaczmarek is the Director of the Center for Cyber Security Awareness and Cyber Defense and the M.S. in Computing program at Marquette University where he has initiated the online degree program (ranked in the top 20 by US News and World Reports) and  developed curriculum enhancements in Data Science, Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity. Prior to joining Marquette, Dr. Kaczmarek was an executive at General Motors with responsibility for the global manufacturing IT architecture and IT portfolio management. He is a graduate of UW-Whitewater and received his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Pennsylvania.

William Caraher (SIM member)

Extensive experience leading Information Technology who has strategically managed  complete end-to-end technology and business operations. Currently, Chief Information Officer & Director of Operations at von Briesen and Roper s.c.  Bill also serves as  Adjunct Professor in the College of Business Administration at Marquette University and serves is Chairman i.c. Stars Milwaukee. SIM member.
