Emergency grant funds are available to assist Marquette University students who experience a financial emergency or unanticipated expense that causes financial hardship. This funding is meant to help in emergency situations that may affect a student’s ability to continue their academic progress. Our goal is to provide students with emergency grant aid to reimburse emergency expenses and help continue their academic journey at Marquette.  

What is emergency grant aid?  

Emergency grant aid awards are grants that reimburse actual expenses in a financial emergency or crisis that a student is facing. These awards are grants - NOT loans and will not need to be repaid.  

To be eligible for emergency grant aid, students must:  

• Be enrolled at Marquette University in a degree-seeking program at the time they are applying for emergency assistance.  
• Be making satisfactory academic progress in a degree-seeking program.  
• They must be seeking emergency support funds while currently enrolled at Marquette. Costs for previous or future academic years will not be considered.

Here are some examples of the types of emergency expenses grant aid can be applied to:   

• Current emergency medical expenses not covered by insurance  
• Books/course materials for the current course term  
• Technology/equipment needed to ensure continuity of learning  
• Homelessness, sudden loss of housing, or imminent loss of housing 
• Utility bills – must have current date  
• Loss of childcare  
• Health insurance premiums  
• Replacement of stolen equipment essential to student’s coursework at Marquette University (as long as a police report is filed, and copy supplied)  

• Other financial needs arising from individual and/or special circumstances to be determined on a case-by-case basis (please review application for more details)

• Backpack Program | Mashuda Hall, East Entrance | Free and confidential service that provides groceries and necessary toiletries to any Marquette student who is having difficulty accessing affordable, nutritious food and other essential household items

• Office of Residence Life | Students who seeks assistance with on-campus housing can connect with this office to see what options might be available.
• There are a number housing and rental assistance programs and homeless shelters in or near the Near West Side for students in need of shelter or assistance.
