William R. Stemper, Eng ’77, was elected to the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 2021.
He is the president of Comcast Business, a division of the Cable Unit of Comcast Corporation, headquartered in Philadelphia. Comcast is the largest cable television and media entertainment company in the world. In addition to cable television, Comcast owns NBCUniversal and Sky UK. Such broadcast assets as Sunday Night Football, Saturday Night Live and the Olympics are television properties of NBCUniversal.
As president of Comcast Business, Bill oversees the fastest-growing part of Comcast. Comcast Business was launched in 2006 as an upstart serving the telecommunications needs of businesses throughout the United States. Today Comcast Business has grown to approximately $9 billion in revenue, with more than 2.5 million customers and 10,000 employees. Its customers range from Fortune 100 companies to businesses of all sizes, and industries to the federal government. Prior to Comcast, he held a similar position at Cox Communications in Atlanta and has more than 20 years of global telecommunications experience at AT&T.
Bill is the third generation in his family to attend Marquette, where he met his wife, Nancy. They raised four children, all of whom today are fourth-generation Marquette! He also holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Bill serves on the Opus College of Engineering Leadership Council, and he and Nancy both serve on the President’s Advisory Council for Marquette. They are passionate about Catholic education and promoting our Catholic faith, especially to youth. Additionally, Bill serves as the Comcast executive sponsor to Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School.
Bill and Nancy reside on Amelia Island, Florida, and spend the best seasons in Milwaukee.
Bill is a member of the Marquette University Archbishop Henni Founders Society and the Marquette University President’s Society.
