Mr. William R. Stemper

William StemperWilliam R. Stemper, Eng ’77, was elected to the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 2021.

He is chairman emeritus of Comcast Business, the largest contributor to the growth of Comcast Cable, a unit of Comcast Corporation. Comcast is a global media and technology company that delivers world-class broadband, wireless and video through Comcast Business, Xfinity and Sky. In addition, Comcast owns NBCUniversal and entertainment assets that include Sunday Night Football, Saturday Night Live, the Olympics and Universal movie studios and theme parks.

Under Bill’s leadership, Comcast Business launched in 2006 serving the telecommunications needs of businesses throughout the United States. Today Comcast Business has grown to approximately $10 billion in revenue, with more than 2.5 million customers globally and 10,000 employees. Its customers range from Fortune 100 companies to businesses of all sizes and include industries and the federal government. Prior to Comcast, he held a similar position at Cox Communications in Atlanta and has more than 20 years of global telecommunications experience at AT&T.

Bill is the third generation in his family to attend Marquette, where he met his wife, Nancy. They raised four children, all of whom today are fourth- generation Marquette. He also holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Prior to becoming a trustee, Bill served on the Advisory Board to the Opus College of Engineering as well as the President’s Advisory Council. He and Nancy are passionate about Catholic education and promoting the Catholic faith, especially to youth. Additionally, Bill serves as the Comcast executive sponsor to Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School.

Bill and Nancy reside on Amelia Island, Florida, and spend the best seasons in Milwaukee.

He is a member of the Marquette University Archbishop Henni Founders Society and the Marquette University President’s Society.
