Lizzy McCright, Law ’03, serves as vice president and general counsel and leads the Office of General Counsel as well as the university's community engagement and governmental affairs functions. In this role, she provides strategic legal counsel to university leadership, helping navigate complex legal, regulatory and governance matters while advancing Marquette's mission and institutional priorities.

Since joining Marquette in 2025 as deputy general counsel, McCright has partnered with leaders across the university's academic and administrative units to address an evolving legal and policy landscape. Her work has focused on supporting sound decision-making, strengthening institutional governance, managing risk and enabling strategic initiatives.

Before joining Marquette, McCright spent nearly 20 years with Kohl’s Inc., a Fortune 500 company, where she held progressively senior leadership positions, most recently serving as the senior vice president, deputy general counsel, and assistant corporate secretary. In that role, she advised executive leadership and the board of directors on a broad range of complex legal, business, governance, compliance and strategic matters for a publicly traded organization.

Drawing on her extensive corporate leadership experience, McCright brings a pragmatic and collaborative approach to her work, grounded in strategic counsel, thoughtful risk management and a deep commitment to cultivating talented teams. She is passionate about supporting and empowering colleagues to do their best work in service of the university’s higher education mission.

McCright earned a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from Northwestern University and a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Marquette University Law School where she served as Editor in Chief of the Marquette Law Review. She later taught contract drafting as an adjunct faculty member. Active in the community, McCright currently serves on the board of the Wisconsin Humane Society.
