Marquette momentum

Since he took office in 2014 as Marquette University’s first lay president, President Michael R. Lovell and his leadership team have been transforming Marquette. Rooted in the university’s Catholic, Jesuit mission and guided by a strategic plan, Beyond Boundaries, Marquette’s momentum can be seen and felt across campus — from a reshaped Marquette Core Curriculum at the center of every undergraduate’s educational experience to visionary Campus Master Plan projects that integrate the university’s academic, physical and financial priorities.

Marquette’s physical campus has undergone a renaissance. Projects have included The Commons — Marquette’s first newly constructed residence hall in more than 50 years — the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center, the Physician Assistant Studies Building and Dr. E. J. and Margaret O’Brien Hall, the new home for Marquette Business. Partially funded through the Johnson Controls Foundation, the President’s Challenge cultivates and funds innovative ideas from students, faculty and staff. He and First Lady Amy Lovell worked with community organizations to launch a citywide initiative called Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee to help heal trauma in the Milwaukee community.
