Student Success Academy

As part of the Higher Learning Commission’s quality initiative, Marquette University is participating in the Student Success Academy. The academy is a structured, mentor-facilitated three-year program aimed at evaluating and improving institutional factors that affect student success. In particular, Marquette University hopes to develop new initiatives designed to close the achievement gap for students of color, Pell grant recipients and/or first-generation students.

The Student Success Academy is built around the investigation of four key factors to help institutions identify their current realities and discover areas of opportunity for improving student success:

  1. Data: Who are Marquette’s students? What does the institution know about them?
  2. Initiatives: What is the institution doing to support student success?
  3. Infrastructure: How do the institution’s processes, policies and procedures affect student success?
  4. Engagement: Who is engaged in student success efforts? How is student success promoted and recognized?

Program Structure (Marquette University is currently in Year 1):

Year 1: Environmental Scan

Engage in inquiry to promote action on the key factors in student success.

Year 2: Analysis and Planning

Identify opportunities for systematic improvement through a Student Success Plan.

Year 3: Strategy and Action

Implement the Student Success Plan to support the institution's strategic priorities.
