Graduate Program Timeline Checklist

First Year
FALL
□			Arrive in August, participate in orientation and TA Training
□			Study for and take proficiency exams, see "General Requirements" tab
□			Register for courses, take Chem8999 this semester and the next 3 semesters
□			Advisor selection process throughout September and October
□			Start doing research after advisor assignment
SPRING
□			Course registration consult with your advisor, you may take CHEM6995 only twice in your studies
□			Submit Doctoral Program Planning Form by the end of the semester, send to gradrecords@marquette.edu and MUchem@marquette.edu
Second Year
FALL
□			No specific tasks, keep doing research
SPRING
□			Literature Seminar
Third Year
FALL
□			Research Seminar - schedule with committee
□			Send research report to committee and admin asst at least one week prior to seminar
□			Submit doctoral qualifying examination form to graduate school
SPRING
□			No specific tasks, keep doing research
Fourth Year
FALL
□			Schedule 4th meeting with committee
SPRING
□			No specific tasks, keep doing research
Fifth Year
FALL
□			Schedule 5th meeting with committee
SPRING
□			If defending this semester, apply for graduation on checkmarq by deadline on the academic calendar
□			Submit dissertation outline to graduate school by deadline on the academic calendar
□			Send dissertation to committee members one month before defense
□			Dissertation Defense
□			Submission of Defense
