Marquette celebrated the National First Generation College Celebration in the first week of November 2020 with the following events to honor our first generation students.

Students who participate in each of the following will have a greater chance to win prizes including a laptop, a Fujifilm Instax camera, an Amazon Echo Dot, or other great prizes:

First Gen Connect

First Gen Connect with Career Services Center

Tuesday, November 3; 5 PM – 6:15 PM

First-generation students are invited to attend this evening of storytelling and conversation with fellow first-gen faculty, staff, alumni, and employer guests. Attendees will hear and share stories of their successes and challenges as members of the first-gen MU community and connect their MU degree to the world of work by meeting an employer committed to hiring and supporting diverse talent. First-year through graduate students from all majors are encouraged to attend!  



Show Our Love care package!

We are proud of our students who are the first in their families to attend college. To show our love, we are preparing care packages for pick-up for from the Alumni Memorial Union second floor during the following times:

  • November 4 from 10 AM to 1 PM
  • November 5 from 10 AM to 2 PM


First 250 registrants will receive a First Gen Marquette t-shirt!

We will not be mailing care package items, however, if you are a student in quarantine, we will deliver the care package to your hall.  Please be sure register for a package and email to let us know to which residence hall to deliver the package.

First Gen We are Our Ancestors' Wildest DreamsFirst Gen Juniors and Seniors: Contribute to the First Gen Zine

We are seeking current juniors and seniors who have a story to tell about their experience as the first in their families to attend college and their first gen experiences at Marquette.  This will be part of a collection of personal essays to be published in the spring.  Students who are selected will be compensated.

Complete this interest form by Friday, November 13th and we will be in touch!

Participate in Make a Difference Day!

Make a Difference Day is an annual nationwide event in which organizations join forces to elevate community service. On this day, Marquette student volunteers visit the homes of senior adults throughout the city; assisting them with raking leaves, cleaning yards and providing a friendly visitor, in an effort to ensure they are safe, warm and independent in preparation for the winter months.

In these complex times of COVID-19 are goal is to ensure safety, health and well-being of our community. Make a Difference Day will comply with current federal, state, city and university health orders and policies.

  • Friday, November 6th OR Saturday, November 7th for 2 to 3 hours
