Thomas H. Werner

Thomas H. Werner, Eng ’86, was elected to the Marquette University Board of Trustees in 2012.

Tom is an investor, environmental and social justice advocate, and advisor to the CEO of SunPower Corporation. He spent 18 years on the front lines of the solar revolution as the CEO of SunPower and has more than 25 years of experience in leadership roles at disruptive technology and energy organizations.

Before joining SunPower, Tom was CEO at Silicon Light Machines Inc., an optical solutions subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corporation; before that, he held the role of VP and general manager of the Business Connectivity Group of 3Com Corporation. Tom serves on the boards of Cree Inc., H2U, the Silicon Valley Leadership Group and the University of Wisconsin College of Engineering Industrial Advisory Board. He holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Marquette University and a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University.

Tom is passionate about investing in the companies that will lead us to a better, cleaner, more equitable future. He cares deeply about creating equal access to a healthy environment and reversing the effects of climate change for those who have been disproportionately impacted by environmental harm. Tom believes that together, we can change the way our world is powered.

He is a member of the Marquette University Archbishop Henni Founders Society.
