In 2012, Facilities Planning and Management in collaboration with the Biology Department took inventory of native Wisconsin trees on campus. In 2022, the initiative continued to map the unversity's collection of over 1000 trees. The inventory is part of the Wisconsin Department Natural Resources official tree inventory.

The inventory will be managed by Marquette Sustainability in an effort to keep it current and work with Facilities Planning & Management to utilize the inventory to make decisions about tree management on campus. This comprehensive and publically available inventory can be used for coursework at the university, by foresters within the city and the communtiy at large.

Community Gardens

Marquette University’s Community Gardens offer an opportunity to take part in a sustainable community food system while establishing belonging by cultivating our shared environment. The gardens bring people of all backgrounds and gardening experiences together to enjoy, learn, and teach others about growing food. Embracing all pillars of sustainability: environment, economy, and society, fostering a more resilient community.

On the Humphrey Hall lawn, there are eight garden beds that are available for rent May through September, open to faculty, staff, graduate & undergraduate students that register via our interest form in early spring. Half and whole garden beds are available for use, with the option to harvest produce for themselves or donation to The Backpack Program. Tools and resources are provided for registered gardeners.
