RISE Multicultural Pre-Orientation
RISE is an in-person, three-day overnight program prior to University Orientation. RISE participants stay in an on-campus hall until the last day.
Students who participate in RISE are eligible for early drop-off of their belongings to their assigned residence hall. The student's residence hall must be specified on the RISE registration interest form.
Note: This is only a time to drop off belongings. Students will be able to return for move-in after checking out of RISE on the final day.
A sample schedule of RISE includes:
Day 1: Welcome
1 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Move-in (RISE temporary housing) and check-in with campus tours (campus map)
4 p.m. (concurrent session): How can I support my college student? Panel for Parents
4 p.m. (concurrent session): Get-to-know you session for students with RISE Mentors
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Welcome Dinner
(Families of RISE participants are invited and encouraged to attend. Families depart after dinner and can re-join their student at University Orientation.)
6:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Meet your Mentors (icebreakers in small and large groups)
7:30 p.m.: Evening social time/Return to RISE residence hall
Day 2: Get to know your campus resources!
8 a.m.: Breakfast with University President, Dr. Michael Lovell at The Commons Dining Hall
9 a.m.: Campus Seek and Find
11:30 a.m.: Lunch and Professor panel to ask questions about the first semester
1 p.m.: Managing your First Semester conversation with the Office of Student Educational Services
2 p.m.: Managing your Mental Health and Wellness with the Counseling Center
4:30 p.m.: How is high school different from college? Behind Closed Doors with Mentors, Part 1
5:30 p.m.: Cookout
7:30 p.m.: Evening social time/Return to RISE residence hall
Day 3: Transition to University Orientation
8 a.m.: Breakfast with University Staff - Learn about more ways to get involved!
9 a.m.: Get MUID and Orientation registration packet
9:30 a.m.: Review Orientation packets with Mentors
10:00 a.m.: Closing
11:00 a.m.: Check out of RISE residence
6:00 p.m.: Social at The Annex with partner University departments
*Breaks will be provided in between sessions.
