Assistant Professor

Exercise Science

Dr. Natasha Boyes is an Assistant Professor in the Program in Exercise Science within the Department of Physical Therapy. Dr. Boyes received a PhD in Kinesiology with an emphasis in human cardiovascular physiology from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology at the University of Missouri.

  • Sc., Kinesiology, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada, 2017
  • Sc. Hon, Kinesiology (minor in Nutrition), University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada, 2015

Courses Taught

  • EXPH 2045: Principles of Human Physiology
  • EXPH 2046: Principles of Human Physiology Laboratory

Research Interests

Dr. Boyes' research focuses on autonomic control of cardiovascular function in health, aging, and disease. She has broad-based interests in neural control of the circulation, sex differences in cardiovascular function, and autonomic mechanisms of menopause and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Boyes utilizes sophisticated analysis of sympathetic neuronal firing patterns and pharmacological interventions in conscious humans to conduct her mechanistic research. The overarching goals of her research program are to bring sex-specific mechanisms of cardiovascular disease into focus and to equip practitioners with a tailored understanding of women’s cardiovascular health and distinct medical needs.
