The History of Marquette's Pride Prom

This event was created to be a family-focused gathering for individuals (mainly Marquette students and local high school students) who identify as LGBTQ+ and their families and allies – many of whom may not have felt comfortable and affirmed attending their high school proms.

Because Catholicism at its best seeks to be inclusive, Marquette strives at every level to foster a culture of respect and belonging, embracing conversations and events that increase our understanding of diverse individuals and their experiences. The university is committed to supporting our LGBTQ+ community in ways that are both pastoral and educational, emphasizing the development of a life of faith, while encouraging learning and free expression.

Typically held annually in April, Pride Prom is focused on our Marquette, Milwaukee and the surrounding area community coming together in a celebration of diversity in all its shapes, forms, colors, and creeds, and specifically the LGBTQ+ Community. In support of our strategic plan initiatives, this event bolsters Marquette’s desire to foster a “Culture of Inclusion” as well as our Jesuit values of Cura Personalis. The planning team sees this event as an opportunity to engage with our larger community, both on and off campus, to strengthen support networks, encourage inclusivity, and highlight the value of all individual identities. We believe in the power of this event to touch the hearts and minds of all participants and leave an indelible impact on their lives. Our hope is that all attendees walk away feeling affirmed and celebrated, and see themselves an integral part of the “We” in “We Are Marquette.”

Future Pride Proms

We look forward to presenting future opportunities of affirming Pride Proms.
