Commuter Students

Commuter students are those students who live outside the university area and must drive or use public transportation to attend class. Marquette University and the Alumni Memorial Union provide many services and amenities for commuter students. Please use this website as a guide to those resources.

Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry is rooted in the Catholic tradition and Inspired by the life and charism of St. Ignatius of Loyola, they work together to meet the diverse spiritual needs and interests of Marquette University’s student community.

Located in AMU 236.

Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation facilitates the transformational learning experience by engaging students in a comprehensive wellness and activities program to develop and promote healthy lifestyles, leadership development, lifetime skills, and sportsmanship.

Located in the Wellness + Helfaer Recreation Center. 

Commuters at Marquette Newsletter

The Commuters at Marquette Newsletter is published every month during the academic year. It includes useful information for the commuter population and an overview of upcoming events commuter students may be interested in.

Dining Services

There are many dining options on campus. For more information on the meal plan options and how to purchase a commuter meal plan, visit their website.

Eagle Express

The EagleExpress helps enhance campus safety by providing free shared rides as an alternative to walking alone. Powered by Via, it’s easy to request a ride for yourself and up to seven friends, view the approximate wait time, and track your ride on the EagleExpress app. EagleExpress vans run 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. daily and provide door-to-door service from locations starting and ending on campus.

Iggy's Market

Iggy's Market transforms donations into dignity through our Marquette Backpack Program and Career Closet—tackling food insecurity and professional needs with a circular approach that cares for both our students and the environment.

The Backpack Program is Marquette's confidential, on-campus food pantry providing groceries and necessary toiletries to any Marquette student who is having difficulty accessing affordable, nutritious food and other essential household items.

The Career Closet is a dedicated space where students can access donated items such as suits, blazers, blouses, button-up shirts, polos, pants, sweaters, skirts, and dresses.

Locker Rental

There are lockers available to rent in the Alumni Memorial Union. Visit Union Station located in AMU 158 for more information.

Marquette University Counseling Center

The Counseling Center provides a variety of clinical and consultation services to support the mental health needs of Marquette students. Schedule a consultation appointment to discuss support needs, eligibility, and treatment options by phone, (414) 288-7172, in person, or you can request a consultation appointment online.

Located on the 4th floor of the Wellness + Helfaer Recreation Center.

Marquette University Medical Clinic

Full-time Marquette undergraduate students are assessed a mandatory per-semester student health fee as part of their tuition and fees. The health fee covers unlimited office visits, some laboratory studies and reduced prices on additonal services. Here is a full list of services offered.

Milwaukee County Transit System

View the maps, routes, and schedules of the MCTS. Marquette students also have access to the U-Pass.

The U-PASS will now be on your smartphone, and it allows students to ride any Milwaukee County Transit System bus for free, 24-hours a day/7-days a week. During the Fall or Spring semesters, all full-time undergraduates will receive a code via CheckMarq to activate the mobile pass through the Umo mobility app.

Office of Inclusion and Belonging

The Office of Inclusion and Belonging provides programs, services, and resources to encourage knowledge building, skill development, cross-cultural interactions, and physical spaces that are nurturing and cultivate a sense of belonging for historically underrepresented students, while deepening all students’ capacity to thrive at Marquette. Our work and service for and with others complements the academic curriculum to provide all students with a transformative experience.  

Located in AMU 121.

OIB includes the Center for Engagement and Inclusion (located in AMU 111) and the LGBTQ+ Resource Center (located in AMU 140). 

Parking Services

The Parking Service Office is responsible for all parking on campus, including surface parking lots, parking structures, and restricted areas such as the malls and loading zones.

All commuter parking permits go on sale before other student permits. Stay up to date on pricing and permit sales on their Parking Permits for Students website.

 

Tips

Tips for commuter students:

  • Get Involved on Campus!

    • Join the Commuter Student Association or another student organization. Get to know other students on campus.

  • Plan to Stay on Campus for More Than Classes. 

    • Activities and events happen at all time of the day. Check out the bulletin boards in the AMU - the Campus Activities Board provides multiple opportunities every week to do something fun. Commuter students are welcome to participate in all that is offered. Apply for an on-campus job; join a club sports team; hang out in the Libraries or the Lemonis Center for Student Success...plus so much more!

  • Hang Out in the Commuter Lounge in the AMU.

    • Meet and interact with other students with similar concerns, needs, and knowledge of what it is really like to commute to Marquette. Grab a snack, study, and relax! 

  • Get to Know Your Professors.

    • They are a tremendous resource and care for all students. If there are special circumstances about commuting that they should know, it is always good to discuss the information with them.
