Alumna Tina Owen-Moore Publishes Book on Founding of the Alliance School of Milwaukee

Tina Owen-Moore (Arts '98) has published The Alliance Way: The Making of a Bully-Free School based on her experiences co-founding The Alliance School of Milwaukee. The school opened in 2005 and is the nation's first school focused on addressing bullying and teaching others to do the same. An award-winning educator, Owen-Moore outlines the beliefs and practices that made The Alliance School a safe, inclusive and academically challenging environment. Published by Harvard Education Press, the book highlights core concepts that both staff and students at the school adopted, with emphasis on the importance of shared power and authentic work; the role of relationships and joy in preventing harm; the need to prepare staff to support LGBTQ students and students who have experienced trauma; and systems for reporting and repairing harm when it occurs.
