We know that supporting your student’s health and well-being is important to you. Our Medical Clinic team is here to provide high-quality, student-centered care while helping students build confidence in managing their own health.
Because college students are legally responsible for their healthcare, our communication is primarily with them. At the same time, we value the important role families play and encourage ongoing conversations between you and your student. The information below answers common questions and helps you understand what to expect.
My student needs to see a provider:

How does my student schedule an appointment?
Students schedule their own appointments online or by calling the clinic at 414-288-7184. Same-day visits are often available for urgent concerns.
Can I schedule an appointment for my student?
Appointments are scheduled directly by students. As part of their healthcare experience in college, students are responsible for managing their own care, including scheduling visits.
What happens if my student needs care after hours?
Students who need after-hours or emergency care have many accessible facilities near the Marquette campus. Students are responsible for payment for services obtained at these facilities.

What types of care are available to my student?
We offer care for a wide range of needs, including illness and injury, minor procedures, physical exams, immunizations, sexual health services, X-rays, and lab testing. Visit our page for more details.
Are there types of care the Medical Clinic does not provide?
Our clinic provides many common healthcare concerns, but not all specialty or advanced services are available on campus.
Some specialized services—such as allergy injections, dental care, or prescriptions for ADHD—are not available at the clinic.
If your student needs services beyond what we provide, we will help coordinate referrals to trusted community providers.
I have questions about costs and insurance:

What will my student’s visit cost?
Full-time Marquette undergraduate students are assessed a per-semester student health fee ($210.00 per semester) as part of their tuition and fees. The health fee covers unlimited office visits, some laboratory studies and reduced prices on additonal services.
Graduate, professional and part-time undergraduate students have the option to pay the per-semester health fee ($210) anytime during the semester to save costs. The health fee covers unlimited office visits, some laboratory studies and reduced prices on additonal services. If you chose not to pay the per semester health fee, you can still utilize the Medical Clinic on a fee for service basis. Office visit fee is $75 per visit, please note additional fees may be assessed for other services.
Does my student need insurance to be seen?
No. Students can receive care at the Marquette University Medical Clinic regardless of insurance coverage.
However, insurance may be needed for services outside the clinic, such as referrals to specialists, imaging, or hospital care. Students should carry their insurance card and understand their coverage, including copays and referrals.
What types of services typically have additional costs?
Some services, including lab tests, X-rays, and medications, may involve additional costs. Providers will review these with students during their visit.
Is there a student health insurance plan?
Marquette University no longer offers a voluntary student health insurance plan. As a result of the Affordable Care Act, most Marquette students are entitled to coverage through age 26 under health care policies purchased by their parents. Marquette students who otherwise lack access to health insurance may purchase policies through health insurance exchanges.
Below are some resources that may assist with finding a plan.
I’m concerned about privacy:

Will I be notified if my student is seen?
No. Students’ healthcare information is confidential.
Why can’t you share information with me?
We understand that families want to stay informed. However, student health records are confidential and kept separate from academic records.
We cannot share information outside of the Marquette University Medical Clinic without the student’s written permission. Privacy protections under HIPAA also limit what can be disclosed without consent.
Can my student give permission for me to be involved?
Yes. Students may complete a release form to allow us to share health information with a parent or family member.
We encourage students to involve you in their care as they feel comfortable.

What should my student bring to an appointment?
Students should bring their Marquette ID and a form of payment in case they incur any additional costs.
How can I encourage my student to seek care?
Open, supportive conversations can make a meaningful difference. Encourage your student to listen to their body, seek care early, and view healthcare as a normal part of maintaining their well-being.
Letting them know that services are confidential and easy to access can help reduce hesitation.
I want to understand health requirements:

Are there required immunizations?
Yes. All new and readmitted students are required to complete the Immunization and Tuberculosis Screening forms.
Students can access and submit their health forms through the patient portal.
When are the immunization and health forms due?
We ask that new student health forms are completed 30 days prior to the start of your student's first semester.
If documentation is not received within this timeframe, a medical hold will be placed on the student’s account, which may prevent future class registration.
What if my student cannot find their immunization records?
Students can contact their previous healthcare provider, high school, or state immunization registry to obtain records. If records are unavailable, additional vaccinations or testing may be required.
Vaccine exemptions will be considered on a case by case basis. If you or your student have questions about exemptions, please email: immunizations@marquette.edu
