RE: Delegation of Authority to Deans on Promoting Part-time Participating Faculty

I am writing to confirm the ability of deans to make the final decision on requests for promotion by part-time participating faculty.

The statute on faculty, appointments and promotions (Section 302.01) does not distinguish between the rule governing full- and part-time appointments. It states only that all appointment, reappointments and promotions of faculty members of Marquette University are made by or under the duly-delegated authority of the President of the University.

I hereby delegate the authority for promoting part-time participating faculty to the Deans of the colleges and schools. This delegation follows the custom that has prevailed in the colleges for some time. All part-time participating faulty promotions must continue to be made in accordance with the guidelines described in Chapter 302 of the statutes. The delegation does not pertain to full-time participating faculty, whose promotion policy and guidelines remain unchanged.
