Request a classroom visit
One of the best ways to encourage your students to visit the writing center is to let them meet a writing center tutor. We are happy to offer short (5-10 minute) informational classroom visits at any point throughout the semester. Some instructors like to have us visit at the start of the semester; others prefer to have us visit in the weeks before an assignment is due. In either case, we'll ask you about your assignment(s) so that we can tailor our advice on how to make the best use of the writing center specifically for your students.
We generally begin by introducing ourselves and asking if anyone is familiar with the writing center or the variety of services we provide. We then transition into precisely what it is we do and how we can help your class with their specific needs: articulating and supporting a clear thesis, learning more about a formatting style, working towards a specific career-oriented project, and so forth. This is also when we explain that we are not just for struggling students but rather all writers who care about their writing. We briefly clarify that we are not a proofreading service and conclude by asking if there are any questions and sharing information on how to schedule an appointment or learn more about our workshops.
If this sounds like something that would be of interest to you and your students, please schedule a classroom visit by filling out this form.
