This spring marks the first ever Voyageur II retreat, a rugged camping retreat experience intended to deepen participants’ connection to God and the natural world. This retreat will be focused around simplicity and intentionality, and it will be grounded in Christian themes like surrender, awakening, and the cross. We’ll do this deep spiritual work while exploring the wonders of the North Shore of Minnesota, including:

The Voyageur II retreat is intended to be physically and spiritually challenging. You can expect to be uncomfortable at times—whether because the weather is cold or food is burned, because you’re asking difficult questions of God or yourself, or any number of other reasons. The goal of the retreat is not to avoid discomfort, but to grow in resilience, confidence, and faith. That growth is key to being a more complete human person, and it is worth the discomfort that sometimes accompanies it.

That said, you don’t need to be an experienced outdoors person, or have your faith all nicely worked out. If you’re up for a physical and spiritual adventure, you’ll do great.

Gear you will need:

Mostly you just need typical outdoor, comfortable, athletic clothing that you probably already have or can borrow. In addition, you’ll need:

You can purchase relatively inexpensive but high-quality versions of all of this equipment, and we will talk about equipment as a group, so you have a sense of what to look for. We will also have a limited number of sleeping bags and sleeping pads available to borrow.

Campus Ministry will provide tents, stoves, cookware, and all group equipment.

Open to:

All students, both undergraduate and graduate, of the Marquette Community.

We will be tent camping on the shore of Lake Superior at Lamb’s Resort, a rustic campground, in Schroeder, Minnesota.
