English Honor Society

Sigma Tau Delta

Sigma Tau Delta, the international English Honor Society, promotes the study of and interest in all fields of English, including literature, language, and writing. Marquette’s Beta Delta chapter has been in existence since 1934. The chapter fosters community among English majors and minors through a range of social, cultural, and professional events. In recent years, students have visited the Ernest Hemingway Birthplace Museum in Oak Park, IL and seen Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera here in Milwaukee. Members have also attended national conferences and have published poems and essays in journals sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta. In addition, members can apply for scholarships to help support summer study, graduate study, study abroad, and work in the teaching professions.

Marquette's Beta Delta chapter encourages qualified English majors and minors to apply for membership. You may apply if you have taken three semesters of coursework at the college level, have completed two upper-division (3000- or 4000-level) English courses, and have an overall GPA of  3.0 or higher.
