A team of graduate students from our department won first place in the Dream Machine Hackathon hosted by Discovery World. Congratulations to Praful, Ethan, Vanessa, Clayton, and Josh!!

2025

Dr. Jay Pantone's research on superpermutations was highlighted in the articles "An Internet Commenter Asked One Innocent Question—and Accidentally Caused a Major Math Conundrum" in Popular Mechanics and "How Anime Fans Stumbled upon a Mathematical Proof" in Scientific American (featured in the 2025 "Ultimate Math" print edition).
Dr. Carl Mueller appeared on WTMJ's Wisconsin Morning News on Pi Day to talk about pi and pie.
Dr. Jay Pantone's participation in the FrontierMath LLM Benchmark, led by the non-profit Epoch AI, was covered in the news articles "At Secret Math Meeting, Researchers Struggle to Outsmart AI" in Scientific American (featured in the 2025 "Ultimate Math" print edition) and "Can ChatGPT Win a Fields Medal?" in the Financial Times.
Dr. Jay Pantone's NSF-funded project AI-HELP to develop an AI-powered tool to help students learn to write mathematical proofs was covered in the article "New AI-powered tool helps students find creative solutions to complex math proofs" in Phys.org.

2020

Christopher Beal was recognized for his contribution in using machine learning to analyze electrical activity of the heart.
Dr. Jay Pantone's research on superpermutations was highlighted in the article "Le secret d’Arsène Lupin : les superpermutations" in Pour la Science.

2018

Steven Goodman was a key contributor to Internet adoption in Wisconsin.
Dr. Jay Pantone was interviewed by Quanta Magazine for the article "Mystery Math Whiz and Novelist Advance Permutation Problem" and interviewed by The Verge for the article "An anonymous 4chan post could help solve a 25-year-old math mystery" about his research into superpermutations.
Marquette - Marquette University has been recognized as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Educations based on a NSA/DHS review of campus actions and the MS in Computing specialization in Information Assurance and Cyber Defense. (Milwaukee Business Journal)
